Well, this isn’t the post I was planning on doing next but I wanted to give an update on my seed starts. Along with learning about gardening, I’m learning about blogging and now know not to make the rookie mistake of saying what the next post will be unless that post is written and scheduled to go out.

Anyway, my concerns were valid about some of my starts getting too big for my green house. There was no good way for me to transfer them to bigger post and still have good lighting so my two options seemed to be toss them or plant them and see what happens. Either way I would start some more seeds. I went ahead and covered the areas I wanted to plant with clear plastic tubs, hardened the plants off for a few days and then planted my zucchini, buttercup squash, all the tomatoes, and one of the cucumber plants. I tried using the tubs to get a green house effect but it didn’t work. They survived a few days but the night that went below 30 degrees killed them all. Thankfully, I have one cucumber, my peppers, and the watermelon plant still inside and they should be okay for another month when I can hopefully plant them outside.

I did get more seeds started that included a few new ones. Along with more of the plants I lost, I started 3 varieties of kalettes, brussel sprouts, some pattypan squash my son wanted to grow and decided to give asparagus a try.

One thing I have learned is that I can start my peppers in Feb/March but to wait until end of March or beginning of April for squashes and tomatoes.
